One Step Forward

Over the years, stepping has served as a pivotal part of African American culture. Taking inspiration from various forms of African culture including syncopated beats and dances, step has become a form of self-expression and well-known art form within American culture. Today individuals of all ages participate in this performance art style and portray a sense of community, belonging, and fellowship. Join the International African American Museum, in collaboration with the Charleston Gaillard Center and Step Afrika !, on November 1, 2023, for a celebration and showcasing of skill as we host a step exhibition with local collegiate organizations.
