Looking in the Mirror of Black History: Living in the Now

  • Faith Based

The historic International African American Museum in Charleston rests on the largest point of arrival for enslaved Africans in U.S. history. This sacred ground will be the site of an unprecedented interactive exploration of Black history with internationally renowned contemplative leader Dr. Kamilah Majied, author of Joyfully Just, Black Wisdom and Buddhist Insights for Liberated Living.

This event is perfect for anyone seeking a deeper connection to Black history and a way to explore its impact on their lives while gaining tools for personal and community transformation.

Engage in supported emotional and spiritual reflections as you explore Black history with Dr. Majied. Draw from her diverse spiritual experiences and learn meditative practices to process your thoughts, feelings, and embodied sensations. Learn how to develop your commitment and capacity to support Black history programming in your communities and organizations.

Participants will learn:

  • How to mindfully engage with Black history, experiencing it through heart, mind, body, and spirit.
  • How faith in individuals, community, and/or a higher power enriches our connection to Black history.
  • How African indigenous philosophies and Buddhist insights such as Ubuntu and Interdependence can enhance our understanding of Black history.
