New York Times: In Charleston, a Museum Honors a Journey of Grief and Grace

Holland Cotter, the co-chief art critic, visited Charleston, South Carolina, to explore the eagerly awaited International African American Museum before its public opening. Located on the site of Gadsden’s Wharf, where enslaved Africans were brought to America in the 18th and 19th centuries. After a challenging journey spanning nearly 25 years, the museum encompasses the entire Afro-Atlantic world, including Africa, making it the first significant institution in the United States to do so.
