Field Trip Guidelines

We look forward to welcoming you and your students to the International African American Museum! Below are the required guidelines to adhere to during your time at the Museum. Please follow the rules, but don’t forget to have fun and take advantage of the opportunity to learn something new outside of the classroom!

  • Students must always be accompanied by an engaged teacher or chaperone.
  • Be polite, respectful, and considerate at all times. Remember that you are in a public learning environment with sensitive, and, at times, emotional information. Be aware and considerate of others’ emotions while exploring, and always communicate at a respectful volume.
  • Please do not touch anything in the galleries unless it says you can.
  • No running or horseplay is permitted inside of the Museum or on the African Ancestors Memorial Garden grounds.
  • Absolutely no food is permitted inside the Museum unless for medical emergency. Unopened plastic plastic and reusable water bottles with lids are allowed inside of the Museum but cannot be opened inside any galleries.
  • Photography and video for personal use are permitted. No flash is allowed.
  • Follow all school rules/policies while in the Museum and on the grounds.
  • The International African American Museum is a sacred site of reflection, contemplation, and historical significance. Be mindful of our sacred grounds when exploring the space.
  • The International African American Museum is a smoke-free and vape-free environment.
