Thank you for your interest in donating to the museum. When you give, you are making a deeper commitment to create this important institution. Donations at every level are honored, and are applied towards planning, design, exhibitions, construction, educational programming initiatives, and public programs.
The lifeblood of the International African American Museum comes from supporters who choose to make annual gifts. No matter the level, all gifts are so important and we honor each and every one. Be inspired by the words of educator, activist and Lifetime member of the museum’s Board of Directors, Lucille Whipper.
"Now don’t worry about what’s goin’ on right now you just decide where you can connect to do something about all of the problems that we face. Take a piece of it. Use it and do your thing."
With the support or more than 1000 donors, we have successfully raised $96 million for our capital campaign. This allowed us to begin construction and it is moving at a fast pace.
It’s impressive and exciting. Every steel beam represents the hopes and dreams of citizens committed to building an institution that will change the world. We thank all those who have been a part this important endeavor. Our attention now turns to raising funds to recruit a world-class team and create extraordinary education and public programs. We are also building an endowment. The current corpus of our endowment is $7 million; by opening, we hope to increase it to $15 million. Here is a list of some of the major donors to date.

There are many ways you can leave a legacy to sustain the International African American Museum, by making a planned gift. This can be in the form of a bequest in your will, a designation in life insurance policies, IRA, 401(k) or other retirement plans, gift annuities and more. Here is a simple form to reference as you consider a legacy gift to the museum. Please feel free to contact Ginny Deerin, Major Gifts Officer, to discuss opportunities at firstname.lastname@example.org or 843.437.5565.
We are currently not accepting the donation of objects or papers and will have to return any unsolicited items. The Museum’s collection policy will only include the acquisition of objects for use in our permanent exhibitions. Please check back in July for more information about items we’re looking to collect.
