Sea Islands Series: Edisto Island (Panel Discussion)

William Aiken Walker: The Cotton Wagon (oil on Canvas) | Public Domain

This webinar was part of an engaging series about the enchanting Sea Islands, a chain of tidal islands nestled along the Southeastern United States Atlantic Ocean coastline. The islands are off the coast of South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. Our panelists delved into the rich cultural tapestry and heritage of the Sea Islands, highlighting the remarkable legacy of the Gullah people – and more.

The unique Gullah culture, rooted in a blend of Western African cultures and traditions, is as old and as continuous as the European cultures found in the U.S., with origins that reach back to the earliest period of the British colonies in the U.S.
