In this short video, Megan Smolenyak discussed was to identify an enslaver. She covered slavery-related records as well as post-Emancipation records (e.g., Freedmen’s Records, Confederate Citizens Files, USCT Pension Applications, etc.) which provide Antebellum information about formerly enslaved people.

Megan also covered what she refers to as “hyper-local” slavery -related documents that were unique to a specific city, county, parish, etc.
