Finding the untold stories and histories of African American families is a powerful and rewarding experience. Finding our family stories and understanding African American family links stretching back centuries in North America – understanding how long our families have been part of the American experience – is empowering.
The fact that African American history is a history of trauma shouldn’t be a barrier to exploring African American family history. This is part of Adrienne Fikes message in this short video. She discusses how to handle the difficult truths, lies, and injustice you might find while researching your family history.
