18th Century Schools for the Free People of Color and the Enslaved (Webinar)

The Williamsburg Bray School in Virginia

This webinar focused on several 18th-century schools that were for free and enslaved Black children in the United States.

Nicole Brown shared where these schools were located, who funded and taught at these educational institutions, and how Black students’ ideas clashed with the institutions that funded their education.

Tonia Merideth shared her personal genealogical research as a direct descendant of families that sent enslaved children to the William Bray School in Williamsburg, Virginia.
