Youth Advisory Council Application

APPLICATION DEADLINE: October, 4, 2024

Thank you for your interest in applying for consideration to join the International African American Museum’s (IAAM) Youth Advisory Council. The Youth Advisory Council is a dynamic initiative at amplifying the voices of youth and fostering the development of future leaders. An annual experience, the YAC provides a platform for youth engagement within the IAAM community, empowering 30 individuals between the 10th and 11th grades the opportunity to contribute their unique perspectives, ideas, and talents to shape the museum’s initiatives and impact.

The Youth Advisory Council has 4 goals:

• To Amplify Youth Voices through the provision of a safe (brave) space for youth to express their ideas, concerns, and aspirations in building and serving their community and beyond.
• To create opportunities for participants to Explore Professional Pathways through connecting with and learning from professionals from throughout a variety of industries to create opportunity for career exploration, skill development, and mentorship.
• To Educate Youth on Museum Culture and the best practices within the museum field to empower them to become active and engaged members of their community through participation in museum initiatives and programs.
• To Develop Digital Projects aimed at extending the reach and impact of the IAAM beyond the Charleston area while also exploring topics, themes, and narratives related to the Global African Diaspora to create content for elementary, middle, and high-school aged learners to enjoy.

IMPORTANT DATES:

• Application Period: May 1st, 2024 – October 4, 2024
• Committee Review & Selection: October 7– October 11, 2024
• Decisions Announced: October 15, 2024
