The reception for the special exhibition, “When it Rains it Shines,” on Wednesday, September 27th, 2023, marked a significant milestone for IAAM. It was IAAM’s very first special exhibition featuring a solo artist. Fletcher Williams III, a proud Charleston native, took center stage with an installation that’s nothing short of mesmerizing.
Williams’ creation is like stepping into a dreamscape crossed with a psychedelic wonderland, as if the South itself decided to throw a surrealist party. It’s one of those experiences that’s equal parts disorienting and irresistibly inviting. Imagine getting lost in a world where Spanish moss morphs into neon rainbows, and grits and gravy dance a wild tango with magnolia blossoms.
But it’s not just a pretty spectacle; it’s an opportunity for visitors to engage with the essence of the South in entirely fresh and mind-bending ways. So, if you missed the reception, don’t fret – this immersive installation is available until December 3rd, 2023.
