Riley Institute honors the International African American Museum with OneSouthCarolina Partners in Progress Award

On May 10, 2023, in Columbia, Furman University’s Riley Institute awarded the International African American Museum (IAAM) with the OneSouthCarolina Partners in Progress Award. This award is given annually to recognize significant contributions toward the advancement of social and economic progress in the state.

Riley Institute Executive Director Don Gordon noted that IAAM, “positions South Carolina as a leader that confronts difficult parts of our past and present and honors those stories.” Former South Carolina Governor and U.S. Secretary of Education Dick Riley presented IAAM President and CEO Dr. Tonya Matthews with the award, honoring the museum’s 23-year journey to fruition and steadfast commitment to its courageous work.
