National Poetry Month Book Drive

In honor of April being National Poetry Month, the IAAM is kicking off the month with our first ever book drive.

We need your help collecting books (for all ages) by African American writers or with African American main characters, through April 30th.

All books will be donated to the Charleston County Public Library (CCPL) “Community Collection” project, an outreach program that partners with local organizations to bring more books into the community free of charge. It’s so important that members of our local community can engage with African American literature no matter which stage of life they’re at, and you can help to make that happen.

There are two easy ways to donate:

  1. Send any gently used books to the address below. CCPL are most in need of bilingual or Spanish books (especially for young kids), board books for infants, and urban fiction for adults.
  2. Use this Bookshop.org link to access our wishlist: Bookshop is an amazing online bookstore that financially supports local, independent bookstores. Feel free to buy any book(s) that speak to you!

No matter which option you choose, make sure you send books to this address:

Support Services, attn: Outreach Department
4355 Bridge View Drive
North Charleston, SC 29405

Thank you so much for supporting both the IAAM and CCPL! We are so excited to see the books you all donate.
