International African American Museum Announces Special Opening Hours for Presidents’ Day

Charleston, S.C. – The International African American Museum (IAAM) will be open on Presidents’ Day, Monday, February 17th, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with last entry time at 4:00 PM. This opening provides an opportunity for visitors to explore the museum’s exhibitions and engage with the rich history and culture of African Americans.

We currently sell timed-entry tickets, and those tickets can be purchased online HERE

IAAM is a museum dedicated to telling the stories of the African American journey, from the Middle Passage to the present day. The museum is located on the site of Gadsden’s Wharf, where approximately 40 percent of enslaved Africans arrived in the United States.

Visitors to IAAM can explore a variety of exhibitions, including:

  • American Journeys: This exhibition tells the story of the African American journey from the Middle Passage to the present day.
  • The Atlantic Is Here: This exhibition explores the history of the transatlantic slave trade.
  • Carolina Connections: This exhibition highlights the contributions of African Americans to the history and culture of South Carolina.

Admission includes access to our Center for Family History and our Special Exhibitions Gallery, currently showcasing “Unsettled Things: Art from an African American South.” This exhibit features 44 works by 28 artists, challenging traditional hierarchies and showcasing the brilliance of often-overlooked Black artists from the South. Visitors can experience profound expressions of life, spirit, and materiality that transform American art at IAAM.
