A Fireside Chat with Clint Smith
Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at 6:30 PM

Join us for a one-hour conversation with Clint Smith, author of the #1 New York Times Bestseller, How the Word is Passed, and Bishop Dr. Claude Richard Alexander, Jr., lead pastor at The Park Church. Moderating the conversation will be Dr. Bernard Powers, College of Charleston director of the Center for the Study of Slavery in Charleston.

As the International African American Museum prepares to open on the site of what was once one of the most prolific slave-trading ports in U.S. history, we will chat with Clint Smith about his experience traveling to various historic sites and monuments—all of which are reckoning with their history of slavery—while exploring why it is so important to honor and tell the untold, under-told, and hidden stories of our country’s past to ensure a more just and equitable future.
