Groundbreaking FAQ

 

Is the Groundbreaking Ceremony indoors or outdoors?

The ceremony will be held outdoors on the harbor side of the Charleston Maritime Center. Please dress accordingly for the expected weather conditions.

What time should I arrive?

Parking will open at 9:00 am. Please plan to arrive no later than 9:30 in order to allow yourself time to park and walk to the Maritime Center to be seated. The event will begin promptly at 10:00 am.

Where can I park?

Free parking will be available on a first come first serve basis at the SC Ports Authority parking lot. Once the lot is full, $5 parking will be available at the SC Aquarium Garage. Please be prepared to pay (cash or card) upon entry and leave any prohibited items (listed below) behind as there will be a security checkpoint. You will not be admitted if you arrive with any prohibited items.

SC State Ports Authority Parking: 176 Concord St, Charleston, SC 29401

SC Aquarium Garage: 24 Calhoun Street, Charleston, SC 29401

What can/can’t I bring?

The following items are prohibited: weapons of ANY kind, oversized bags, illegal substances, noisemaking devices, pets, and any materials deemed dangerous or disruptive by the security team. 

Is there handicap parking?

There will be limited handicap parking at the Charleston Maritime Center: 10 Wharfside Street, Charleston, SC 29401. There will also be handicap parking at the SC Ports Authority and the SC Aquarium Garage.  Drop-off will be available at the Charleston Maritime Center parking lot.

What if I don’t have a ticket?

Tickets are no longer available and they are required for entrance. You should have received your ticket in the mail; please be sure to bring it with you. There will be a “Ticket Table” for any questions or to pick up tickets reserved prior to October 25.  If you were unable to reserve a ticket, please enjoy the ceremony via Facebook live here.

Will there be a reception?

Yes, a reception with light hors d’oeuvres will be held at the Charleston Maritime Center immediately following the ceremony.
