Jammin Journeys Featuring The Cigar Box Guitar

  • Program
$10

Music and the arts offer a gateway to discovering new cultures, fostering critical thinking, and expressing ideas with creativity. Through the Jammin Journeys program, youth and families are invited to embark on a journey exploring musical selections, instruments, creativity, and techniques spanning the Global African Diaspora.

Join us for Jammin Journeys Feat. The Cigar Box Guitar on January 4, as we explore the unique history and sounds of the remarkable instrument with SC luthier and musician Anthony Walker.

From its humble beginnings to its role in shaping American music, the cigar box guitar embodies a powerful story of innovation, resourcefulness, and cultural expression. Anthony Walker will lead the session, sharing the origins of the cigar box guitar and offering participants the chance to learn about its construction, playing techniques, and its connection to the rich legacy of the blues, folk, and roots music. The program will include a captivating demonstration of its performance, providing a hands-on learning experience.

This program is made possible through the generous support of the Hugh & Anne Dobson Donor Advised Fund in honor of Congressman James E. Clyburn.
