Saylor, William B., Obituary, 1897, New York

William B. Saylor, a well known Grand Army man, died at Roosevelt hospital, in New York, on November 4th, where he was undergoing treatment. Comrade Saylor had an interesting war record. He was born in Newburg, N. Y., in 1845. He was color bearer of the famous Twentieth New York Volunteers, serving in company O. under Col. Bartman. His regiment participated in 41 battles, and it was known as the “Fighting Twentieth.” For many years he was an officer of Thaddeus Stevens Post, No. 255 of New York. He was a splendid type of the Afro-American volunteer.
