Too often, the true history of the African American people, and our contributions, successes, and triumphs are erased, untold and forgotten. Because of this, ignorance and bigotry persist. Education is an important tool to build bridges, create awareness and understanding, and bring people together.
The mission of the new International African American Museum in Charleston, South Carolina is to honor the untold stories of the African American journey at one of our country’s most sacred sites. Together, we will explore cultures and knowledge systems retained and adapted by Africans in the Americas, and the diverse journeys and achievements of these individuals and their descendants in South Carolina, the United States and throughout the African Diaspora.
