HISTORY COMES ALIVE

The museum documents the journey that began in Africa centuries ago, and still continues today.

At our entrance, the African Ancestors Memorial Garden sprawls across the grounds and reflects on the significance of the historically sacred site of Gadsden’s Wharf—the point at which an estimated 40 percent of enslaved Africans entered this country. Inside, exhibitions tell the dynamic story of the international African American experience.
